TESE

TESE is the abbreviation for surgical take-out of sperm cells from the testicle (TESE).

Complete lack of sperm cells in the ejaculate, is of course the situation, if the man has prior undergone surgical sterilization, but is in other cases an unexpected finding for the couple.

Often the reason for the lack of sperm cells is obstruction in the "channels" due to prior infections, but will in many cases remain unexplained.

With the TESE procedure, the number of sperm cells collected will always be of a magnitude making fertilization of the eggs possible only by use of ICSI procedure (see ICSI).
